History
Students for Life of America was founded in 1988 as “American Collegians for Life” by a handful of students at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. Until 2006, our base of operations remained in Washington, D.C. with a new set of student officers being elected every year at the annual conference on the eve of the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision. In 2006, the organization was renamed Students for Life of America and opened its office in Arlington, VA. In addition to the student officers and professional staff, SFLA is also advised by a board of non-student pro-lifers, some of them former SFLA student officers.
Since its founding, SFLA has striven to connect college pro-lifers to each other using the annual conference, our Campus Field Program, and other methods, the most recent being our online Forum.
While historically there has been the chronic problem in the college pro-life movement of transient and unstable campus existences, Students for Life of America provides stability and support to this important sector of pro-life activity.
