Generally, safe parts of Washington, D.C. are in the suburbs, Northwest D.C. and Virginia. Feel free to ask the SFLA staff if the hotel you have found is in a safe neighborhood. The area around Catholic University is known as relatively unsafe, and has had several muggings and car break-ins in recent years around the March for Life, so please be careful and be vigilant. The subway system, called Metro, is very safe. Here is a subway map.
You can easily get a hotel in Virginia or someone on the metro (subway) line and commute to Catholic University and the conference. It will be quick, cheap and safe.
