Situation of First 40 Days for Life

In the Fall ’04—There were four pro-lifers sitting around in College Station, TX

 They were frustrated and praying but they felt limited by pro-abortion media

 Abortion Facility in town: Planned Parenthood

 3 weeks before fall semester of TX A&M

 They wanted to make a difference to re-energize the pro-life movement in TX

40 Days Because of the

1. Spiritual significance

2. Beginning of fall semester; finite period of time to bring people into the pro-life movement (then carried on in the movement)

First 40 Days in College Station

1000 new people involved in CS, TX (first 40 days for life)

Many women getting post-abortion healing

Abortion rate plummeted 28%

Three components:

1. Prayer and fasting (Call upon God; we can’t do this alone; from food, from TV)

2. Constant vigil outside abortion clinic (make sure children are not dying alone; completely peaceful and prayerful, unbroken; brought awareness of clinic and what was happening, community couldn’t ignore)

3. Community outreach (door-to-door; 25,000 in 40 days — media attention)

Results of other 40 Days for Life

• 120 women scheduled for abortions turned away and choose life.
• 20 year abortion facility out of business for life
• Green Bay, WI: put together campaign in few weeks – 700 people mobilized, two lives saved in first two hours.
• Dallas – 2000 people, 89 churches; brought together churches and post-abortive healing.
• Aurora, IL: people discovered that a building “Gemini Healthcare” was a façade for a 22,000 sq. foot abortion facility.
  • Planned Parenthood lied about what the building would use for.
  • Clinic was to open 43 days later.
  • In 3 days, put together 40 Days for Life campaign.
    • 30 people out at first, momentum built.
    • 1200-people rallies; lobbied government.
    • Day 40 – federal judge denied Planned Parenthood emergency request for injunctive relief to open clinic on time; Planned Parenthood sent out message to get it open at Sept. 18, put all efforts behind.
    • Day 45 – yesterday, still not opened, still vigil

Vision

 89 Cities in 33 States Total – starts Wednesday

 2007 could be the tipping point for nation; history books point to the beginning of the end of abortion.

 Opportunity to shape history; at election next year, could look to two abortion candidates. Need this effort of prayer

 Create the “Perfect Storm” as the secular media have mentioned

 Close the one remaining abortion facility in North Dakota

3. Offer to participate where needed; no more important way to be a part then being there when these babies are being killed (woman out there alone for 16 hours)
